western mission
A PHANTASMAL DIVERTIMENTO
It's an early morning for the manor when Tatara and G'raha gather the western wizards, an envelop in Tatara's hand. Even at a glance it's clear the letter is from someone quite official, the Western country's emblem emblazoned on it. G'raha looks pensive, but Tatara seems.. unsurprised.
He holds up the envelope, gesturing with it. "We've got a request from the Western military. Seems there's an issue going on at some noble's estate that could be quite dangerous."
(But why isn't the military handling it themselves?)
Tatara takes the letter out from its envelope, reading it out for the wizards. The contents are as follows:
"There's something strange about this request," G'raha says, arms crossed over his chest. "I feel like there's something the General isn't telling us, but I can't say for sure as I've not met the man."
Tatara nods, handing the letter over for the wizards to take. "Do your best to come back in one piece."
The two will walk with them to the elevator, Tatara placing a mana stone into the panel and sending them off to the West. There are directions to the estate included with the letter Tatara handed over, so they should know where they're going.

To the "Western" wizards of the Sage,
I've come to know a few of you wizards who claim to hail from worlds far from this one, and while I am loath to trust anyone with a task concerning national safety, I believe it could be a mutually beneficial thing for us. There are reports of missing people, all of whom were last seen at the the Schropfer Estate just outside the City of Foam, as well as reports of inhuman screams and beasts lurking around the area.
The Schropfers have recently hired on someone who claims to be able to raise the dead, and people are quite adamant that he is able to. That sounds like magic to me, which means it may be just the job for a wizard to handle. If you can take care of this, there will be compensation.
Regards, Gen. Gilles Barnett.

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Western wizards, to your mission!
Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.
This mission has been specifically tailored to Western disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the West on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too!
As a bonus, here's your theme music!
You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, June 15 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

To help with Stealth Mode™, the shadows(?) that were previously hanging out on the floor slither around him like a veil, blending him into the darkness.
He does not stab the ceiling just yet. We're just looking. ☆]

He still speaks quietly though. ]
She seems really upset...is that a curse? The dress seems to be made for a human, so...can I try comforting her? Girls shouldn't be allowed to cry alone...
no subject
...Hm. I'm uncertain that approaching her would be wise at all.
[ There seems to be a 'but' in his comment, though. ]
However, we are still lacking in information, and if she is cursed as well, it wouldn't do to only consider her as only an enemy. If there is a way to get more of what we can about the situation and help her, I do see merit in it.
Though, I'd advise you to not get too close in case you surprise her adversely, and she is inclined to attack. Even with a barrier. Calling out to her could also surprise her but gives you enough distance that it shouldn't be so alarming. If you are amenable to that, I can add on an illusionary spell that could help once Cid is done with his activity.

[ Most of the Knights fan base is made up of girls, after all. And he does have a little sister he's very kind to...although Leo's never once turned on his fanservice mode here so far he CAN do so.
He clearly wants to go comfort her too. ]
I'll stay in range of support magic, so it's okay!
no subject
[ Jing Yuan is not a person who would be great at talking to girls generally. He's a military man, even if he is normally easy-going...smalltalk or comforting also does not naturally come to him.
Leo may, in fact, be ideal for this. ]
But, I believe you will stay in range, at least. We will also be immediately combat ready in the event anything occurs.
no subject
[ That sorted, he will let Jingyuan apply whatever - and then he will step outside range of the stealth illusions, mentally holding up the auditory half for the others so they can stay hidden as he approaches the crying woman.
He's not threatening. Leo's not tall and he's been called "delicate" looking more than once in canon. He gets close enough to speak and ends up going down on one knee because look, he said Knight - ]
Hey, don't cry, princess - tell me what's wrong instead. [ He said he'd stay back but he holds out a hand anyway no one @ him ] Are you hurt?
no subject
Who—who are you?
[She looks around the room, but with all of the illusions up she can't see anyone else, and her gaze focuses back on Leo.]
You shouldn't be here. You'll get caught up in all of this, too...
no subject
[ He's definitely not too experienced in reading monster body language, but...he doesn't think she wants to hurt him. And he can't let a girl cry all alone, like he said.
When he smiles it's entirely genuine. ]
I'm Tsukinaga Leo - you can call me Leo. So - tell me why you're crying...please?
no subject
[But the way he can still smile in the face of this seems to get her to relax, just a bit.]
My... My parents, they...
[She hiccups.]
They're dead, all because of that, that awful man they hired!
no subject
Mostly he just wants to help. ]
...I'm really, really sorry for your loss. I want to help, so...is it okay if you tell me more? And can I take a look at that spell on you...?
no subject
[She sounds surprised, but after a moment she nods. It does make sense that a wizard would be okay...]
My parents... they lost a lot of money, and they wanted to keep up appearances, so when this man came in saying he could help they hired him without question. He put all of this stuff around the house and started spreading rumors that he could talk to the dead, and, and it was all just a big show... He had actors with him, and it was all just fake, but people came and they paid him, paid us, both because they wanted to speak to the dead and also just to see the stupid show he'd put on!
[She seems incensed about this, getting worked up and gesturing as she talk. Her hands drop, though, cradling her necklace.]
It wasn't supposed to be magical, but then everyone started changing.
no subject
[ And he's going to see what he can sense about any spell on her since she didn't object. ]
...ah, so, are other people here changed also? You're the first person I've seen since coming in.
no subject
Yes, I think almost everyone in the house has changed, by now, but I'm not sure. I've been trying to hide in here ever since my parents...
[She can't finish that thought, but Leo already knows.]
So I can't say for certain.
no subject
Okay, no worries. What's your name? And can you tell me anything more about that man, or where he might be in the house? And here, this is for you.
no subject
[She hesitates, but takes the charm from him.]
He's probably upstairs. That's where he does all of his work, and I can't see him stopping now.
[Which probably makes sense after Khun got choked out trying to peek upstairs,]
no subject
Do you mind if I set up some protections on this room, Lizzy? Or I can help you get outside.
[ He figures then the smashy people will take point on the guy upstairs. ]
no subject
[She would appreciate protection, honestly!!]
Outside might be better, but looking like this... Do you think it could be undone?
no subject
I have some friends around who will help me out, and I think we'll wanna undo all of these nasty spells as best we can. I can at least put an illusion over you outside so no one hurts you, but I don't want you to get caught up in anything going on in here while we work, okay?

It takes some squinting, but he'll be able to see what it (she?) is holding—a broken necklace. It has a round pendant, and the chain seems to have been snapped, likely in the same way her clothes were torn.]
no subject
1. Is the magical problem on the girl something that extends to the pendant? Or is the pendant a different type of magic if there is any on it?
2. He also stabs the ceiling just in case.]
no subject
As the sword hits the ceiling, there's a ripple of magical energy that rebounds after it. It's not a very strong sensation, but it's markedly different from stabbing the wall earlier.]
no subject
Is it like hitting a magical shield or something else?
For good measure he stabs the nearby wall. Maybe it’s because the guy is upstairs and doesn’t want his shoes ruined.]
