western mission
A PHANTASMAL DIVERTIMENTO
It's an early morning for the manor when Tatara and G'raha gather the western wizards, an envelop in Tatara's hand. Even at a glance it's clear the letter is from someone quite official, the Western country's emblem emblazoned on it. G'raha looks pensive, but Tatara seems.. unsurprised.
He holds up the envelope, gesturing with it. "We've got a request from the Western military. Seems there's an issue going on at some noble's estate that could be quite dangerous."
(But why isn't the military handling it themselves?)
Tatara takes the letter out from its envelope, reading it out for the wizards. The contents are as follows:
"There's something strange about this request," G'raha says, arms crossed over his chest. "I feel like there's something the General isn't telling us, but I can't say for sure as I've not met the man."
Tatara nods, handing the letter over for the wizards to take. "Do your best to come back in one piece."
The two will walk with them to the elevator, Tatara placing a mana stone into the panel and sending them off to the West. There are directions to the estate included with the letter Tatara handed over, so they should know where they're going.

To the "Western" wizards of the Sage,
I've come to know a few of you wizards who claim to hail from worlds far from this one, and while I am loath to trust anyone with a task concerning national safety, I believe it could be a mutually beneficial thing for us. There are reports of missing people, all of whom were last seen at the the Schropfer Estate just outside the City of Foam, as well as reports of inhuman screams and beasts lurking around the area.
The Schropfers have recently hired on someone who claims to be able to raise the dead, and people are quite adamant that he is able to. That sounds like magic to me, which means it may be just the job for a wizard to handle. If you can take care of this, there will be compensation.
Regards, Gen. Gilles Barnett.

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Western wizards, to your mission!
Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.
This mission has been specifically tailored to Western disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the West on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too!
As a bonus, here's your theme music!
You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, June 15 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

he desperately wants to stab this thing but since the dice continue to be dice, he decides not to opt for melee, instead trying to impair phil further by freezing his joints (6). ]

[Actually most of that was a bit hissy because like, does this guy ever go down?? He didn't come here for a zombie apocalypse, there's been enough specters, and necromancers are supposed to be at least a little squishy, aren't they??? At least Cid now has the dubious distinction of having done less damage to himself than the weird necro-cyborg has!!
That is to say, he fends off a swipe or two with tentacle sorcery, but there's definitely swipes that get through. Luckily, he doesn't need to move too far or too much into melee distance to really get at his target: instead, the dark sword that had appeared previously extends instantaneously from his sleeves to penetrate the problematic Phil in a flurry of movement and ominous purple light (17). At the very least that should help pin him down and maybe, hopefully, slice a few bits off.
Actually, on second thought he turns all of his tentacles into glowing purple swords too and adds them to the fray. Might as well do some
Unlimited Blade Workssword rain for the final attack.Nobody else will understand the whispered attack name in that same foreign language from before, but it's: Atomic Night Rain.]
cw mild(?) gore
Thank the Twelve that the rest of the group is immediately on top of the situation. Freed from Philidor's clutches, he crawls off to safety, spilling a trail of blood behind him. He parks himself up against a wall and begins an attempt to heal himself (5), but the dizzying pain makes him momentarily lose his grip on his emotional state, as well as his magic. He can't get anything to stick. The best he can do is keep a hand pressed to his neck in an attempt to hold back the bleeding for now.]

With the spells from Cid and Jing Yuan, which would have been devastating in their own right, and Leo's amplification, it seems like Philidor might be finished. He screeches one more time, a death rattle that effects Jing Yuan (15), Cid (16), and Urianger (17) (I'm so sorry Seto), but not Khun (5) or Leo (2). The scream rattles them to their core, feeling like it's shaking them to their very core... Shaking the room around them, machinery and mana stones joining the rattling and rocking...
Oh.
That's not from Philidor's scream. The man who made himself a monster slumps, crashing to the floor in a pile of blood and viscera, singed and smoking from Jing Yuan's smell, while the house around them creaks and groans. The house, too, had been warped by the moon, by Philidor's madness, and with it gone it can't support itself anymore. The mansion is collapsing, about to bury Philidor's sins and the rest of them if they don't escape quickly. (Very lucky they have magic, isn't it? Though a few of them did just get psychic blasted and gnawed on...)
With the moon rock purified, they can take it with them without any worries, if they decide that's a priority with the ceiling starting to fall down.

Q-Quickly... [He tries to raise his voice. It seems like he's noticed that the floor rumbling underneath him isn't just from the beating he took to his brain.] We must needs make haste with the stone.

Someone grab a hold of the moon rock! I've got Urianger.
[ Jing Yuan will manage to toss a basic heal upon Urianger and nothing else because that is sure one hell of a death rattle.
He is at least a quick person but has no time to grab the moon rock and he is one person. Please somebody who isn't as shaken get the smaller object because he will carefully pick up Urianger otherwise.
As for the other issue, his next course of action is to head towards one of the windows, and lord help me his low roll will not have him able to break through one, probably. But he does instead use a wind spell to begin to force one measly window open, which should be doable (6), as well as summon his broom to him. The death rattle apparently has gotten to him though he outwardly doesn't act like it, it's fine. ]
We should take to the windows!
[ Jing Yuan says but who knows what anyone is doing anymore over the chaos, ringing in their ears, and whatever other nonsense is going on. ]

[He better not have been magically connected to the house too... rude.......
Cid scrubs his ears for a second, looks around at the mess and promptly sends a couple tentacles out to stabilize the moon rock; he could take it with, but maybe somebody else has a more secure method of transportation?? Hello?? Bueller?? While he's doing that on the side--
He also musters the swords still left over from the Great Phil Kabobbening and sends them outward and upward; aiming to blow out the windows as well as peel away some of the ceiling to give them as much room as possible to maneuver (11). Can't fall on them if the force outward is strong enough.
Just going to mosey on over to that side of the room and pop on his broom.]
Did we forget anything...?
[He's pretty sure they looted a decent amount of things beforehand...? RIP to the loot in the other rooms, though.]

he shoves it into his lighthouse which has all the manastones he gathered from the room earlier then hops on top to escape.
maybe it's because he's taking inventory of what they've seen that the wind spells he throws after Jing yuan's doesn't do much but add to it's momentum (6) but maybe that helps a little.
he's not sure which way they're escaping but he is in fact going to escape one way or the other.
belatedly: ]
...there were more keys but we don't have time for that right now.

[ Leo does try to help with the window demolishing with a 6 and some thrown rock-spells as he calls up his broom, anyway. ]

(Maybe they can pick through the rubble later for loot?)
Once they reach the sky, flying up and over the house, they can see that the thundering clouds have cleared up just a bit. The day is still dreary and grey, but things are just a bit brighter. On the front lawn they can see the distant figure of a blonde woman waving at them. She's far enough away from the house to avoid any dangerous collapse, and next to her, cowering on the ground, is a dark haired man.]
no subject
which is to say he's diving back down to search for loot (15), particularly whatever the keys they didn't use go to. everyone else has the rest handled right? ]
no subject
If anyone can assist me in healing him, I would sincerely appreciate it.
[ Because quite frankly he did not practice all that much healing magic, so this is an area he is lacking in. Also he does not have any of the matches on him, so he turns towards Khun: ]
...Khun, I believe he will need one of those healing matches.
[ ...and he sees that the other is going down to loot. Normally he wouldn't mind, but dear Aeons. Anyway, it is for the best he lowers them to the ground so he will do so near the woman after waiting to see if either of the others at least tosses a heal or something to Urianger. ]
no subject
I thank thee.
[He blearily turns his head to the side. Oh, are they outside now?]
...Hath everyone escaped unharmed?
[Aside from, y'know. Him.]
no subject
[Thanks for being the lightning rod...?! This is what you get for being taller than a titan, I guess. Cid tosses a quick heal Urianger's way (11) because he's got plenty of magic to spare, anyway, and not much by way of injury aside from a headache because loud.
Then he's faffing off to look around in the loot piles -- he does not have keys, per se, but he does have a perception roll (14) as he roots through things casually with all of his shadow tentacles. It's really convenient and much more in style to have more than one pair of hands. His own are even pretty clean after all that mess.
Can he find anything interesting or does he have to PvP Khun for some keys.]
no subject
Well, that will probably make looting easier, actually?
Depending on how thorough their search is, you can find a few things. Nothing magical besides what scarce few mana stones they didn't already squirrel away; the majority of anything of value they can find are actual valuables like jewelry, money, fine clothes (that might need to be cleaned up before selling off). Basically whatever you think that old-money nobility would have is in that rubble, so enjoy your treasures!
As they're picking over the ruins, they will also see something quite odd. Four red orbs, glowing brightly, pop out of Khun's lighthouse, bobbing in the air. There's a feeling of gratitude that comes from them, but also something akin to mischief and laughter before the orbs dart away.]
