southern mission
CALANDO OF WITHERING AMBER
It's mid-morning, with the sun rising high into a bright, cloudless sky, that Tatara summons Bruno, Comet, Maya, Yodarha, and Joyous Day to the manor elevator. It's urgent, he tells them with that soft smile on his face, and your services are needed.
When you arrive at the elevator, standing there to greet you is a young man, finely dressed and with kind eyes; that his mop of brown hair is slightly unkempt is not the only giveaway that he's incredibly stressed. He stands with his shoulders tensed, and almost flinches when he sees you.
"It's...a pleasure," he begins, hesitant at first. But when he inhales, squares his shoulders, he finally looks more like a government official than a meek boy. "My name is Cock Robin, and I am a secretary from the Central castle. On behalf of the minister of arcane management, there's an urgent request for you."
From his thick folder, he pulls out one paper—worn and handwritten. He glances it over briefly before handing it to Joyous Day.
"A town in the southern part of the Southern Country has been having problems with its crops. It seems there's some sort of...sickness that's taken hold of the plants that's spreading rapidly, and they can't seem to find a cure. The only thing they haven't tried is magic. That's where you come in.
"Find the source of the sickness and neutralize it before it destroys their crops. The South is already inhospitable as it is. I can't imagine how they'd fare if they lost a food source. And, personally..." he glances out the window, at the moon fading in the morning sun. "...I have a really, really awful feeling about this. I don't think this is going to be a regular request."

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Southern wizards (and witch), to your mission!
Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.
This mission has been specifically tailored to Southern disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the South on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too! But you've been assigned South—we don't need to remind you of that, do we?
As a bonus, here's your theme music!
You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, April 20 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

With a bit of concentration, Maya will be able to pick up that there is something very wrong with the patients beyond just the heaviness in the air from people who are sick and afraid. Without closer inspection it's hard to pin what exactly that wrongness is.]

Why don'tcha sit down and try to relax for a bit while we look over your folks? We can take it from here.
[Heading further into the room, he focuses in on the patient with the decaying leg.
1. Has the rot spread any further since they were told what was happening?
2. Are there any markings or scars on the leg? If so, what do they look like?
3. While we're still novices at this whole wizard thing, Yodarha will do his best to concentrate in order to read what kind of magic is at play here. Does he get anything, like a school of magic, perhaps?]

The rot has encompassed nearly all of the man's leg, and any distinctive marks or scars have been lost to the state of it. The leg is black and withered, and it does seem likely to continue spreading to the rest of the man's body. If he touches the leg, it's icy cold to the touch, and it does not seem likely the leg could be saved or the damage reversed.
The magic effecting the man is hard for Yodarha to place, between his unfamiliarity with the world and the fact it feels more like magical corruption than the residual traces of spells they have become familiar with. Those who visited the field will be able to sense that the trace signatures to the corruption matches the rot in the fields.]
no subject
1. Is there any particular part of the body the magical corruption seems to be the strongest or where it seems to be originating from? Or is it more or less evenly spread throughout?
2. In connection with the above question, is it more or less the same for all patients or is it different for, say, the man with the withered leg?]
no subject
It's much the same with the man who is worst off as far as the spread of magic—they can easily conclude that their sickness is the same, but in different stages of progression. The mayor will mention the man with the withered leg was the first to fall ill.]
no subject
1. Do they look like they're in the early/earliest stages?
2. When we say torso, do we mean like the upper torso where the respiratory system etc. is or the lower torso where the digestive system is?]
no subject
They are still not doing as poorly as the man with withered leg, but are about the second worst in terms of condition.]

Anywho, guess she’ll give it a go at this healing thing. It’s not like she doesn’t have experience but usually it’s for stabbings and burns and all that. If it’s an illness though… maybe something along the lines of a Posumudi to remove poison might work? Although in this case she would be looking to remove the corruption instead.]

He stirs, blinking awake, and looks around in surprise.]
Did you...?
no subject
But that's a striking difference, so she'll look over at him with a smile.]
Oh, you're awake! How are you feeling?
no subject
I feel... better.
[Some of the corruption still lingers, but he'll survive.]
Are you the Sage's wizards?
no subject
[The lingering corruption is a little troubling, but she's hoping that if they take care of the cause, maybe that will also help dispel whatever's left. Worst case scenario, they can always just try to do another round of healing but they're also on a timer with the field.]
That's right. We came when heard the request from your mayor... It sounds like you've all been through a lot this past week.
no subject
The man nods. He's incredibly thankful for her, and will show a lot of admiration for her and the Sage's wizards as a whole, but she's done all she can for him currently.]
no subject
Oh, before I go check on the others, can I ask you a question? Were you out in the fields before you got sick?
no subject
no subject
Grazie! That's good to know. I'm going to help the others now, but call me over if you start feeling worse.
