southern mission
CALANDO OF WITHERING AMBER
It's mid-morning, with the sun rising high into a bright, cloudless sky, that Tatara summons Bruno, Comet, Maya, Yodarha, and Joyous Day to the manor elevator. It's urgent, he tells them with that soft smile on his face, and your services are needed.
When you arrive at the elevator, standing there to greet you is a young man, finely dressed and with kind eyes; that his mop of brown hair is slightly unkempt is not the only giveaway that he's incredibly stressed. He stands with his shoulders tensed, and almost flinches when he sees you.
"It's...a pleasure," he begins, hesitant at first. But when he inhales, squares his shoulders, he finally looks more like a government official than a meek boy. "My name is Cock Robin, and I am a secretary from the Central castle. On behalf of the minister of arcane management, there's an urgent request for you."
From his thick folder, he pulls out one paper—worn and handwritten. He glances it over briefly before handing it to Joyous Day.
"A town in the southern part of the Southern Country has been having problems with its crops. It seems there's some sort of...sickness that's taken hold of the plants that's spreading rapidly, and they can't seem to find a cure. The only thing they haven't tried is magic. That's where you come in.
"Find the source of the sickness and neutralize it before it destroys their crops. The South is already inhospitable as it is. I can't imagine how they'd fare if they lost a food source. And, personally..." he glances out the window, at the moon fading in the morning sun. "...I have a really, really awful feeling about this. I don't think this is going to be a regular request."

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Southern wizards (and witch), to your mission!
Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.
This mission has been specifically tailored to Southern disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the South on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too! But you've been assigned South—we don't need to remind you of that, do we?
As a bonus, here's your theme music!
You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, April 20 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

[ Bruno turns his attention back to the man whose hand he holds. ]
My, um. My sister heals folks through her cooking. Like, the magic is cooked right into it, b-but I'm not much of a cook myself. Time's more my kinda thing...
[ Sort of, anyway. Is it too restrictive to think in the sense of time, when that's what he's used to? What if he isn't stuck with only the what will be and he could do something about... what used to be? Can he reverse this corruption back to the beginning? Maybe remove it that way? ]

While time magic itself is impossible, thinking in terms of time is not a terrible idea. Should Bruno concentrate and speak his incantation, picturing the body in its pre-corrupted, healthier state seems to help. The man sighs as his pain is eased, the color gradually returns to his cheeks, and the hand in Bruno's warms.
However, the diseased leg remains blackened and shriveled. It seems whatever that is cannot be reversed or cured. ]

Looking up to see some color and warmth returning to the poor man is heartening, even as the diseased leg remaining untouched is misery-causing. That's as he had feared. ]
As long as they're alive, they can be healed. [ He states that, for once sounding sure of himself, although when his gaze shifts to linger on the blackened limb. ] But not the parts that are... are dead. We. Well, we, or... or someone... is going to have to remove his... y'know. The. The leg.
no subject
He makes his way over, hand gripping one of his sword's hilts tightly.]
I can do it. But we should wake him first - ask him if it's okay.
no subject
I was afraid it would come to that. [ He wrings his hands on his cane again, and then nods to the sleeping farmer. ] If he says yes, then let me know if there's anything I can do or provide to assist.
no subject
I'm not sure I'd want to wake up to... to be asked "hey, can we chop your leg off", to be honest, buuut maybe that's just me.
[ Still, the mayor seems to agree and, so, Bruno turns back to the farmer in question and whispers his incantation again, only this time he's willing the magic to wake the man if it can. ]
no subject
Are you...a wizard?
no subject
Uhhh, yes? [ He sounds unsure even though the answer is unfortunately yes. ] Y-yeah, I am. I, er. We are.. are here to help but. There's a... thing... we can't heal, w-with your...
[ Bruno shoots a nervous glance down towards the leg. ]
no subject
Am I going to die...?
[He blinks rapidly, forcing himself to calm down.]
Or can you just—can it be removed?
no subject
[Yodarha's hand continues to rest on the hilt of his blade.]
If there's one thing I'm confident of, it's knowin' how to do a clean cut. With magic on our side, it might even be painless for you too.
no subject
Okay. I-if you can, then... That's fine. Remove it.
[Choosing between his leg or his life is a pretty easy choice, once he gets over the fear.]
no subject
[ Bruno is thinking of all the blood and feeling queasy about it already, yay. ]
no subject
I won't be able to walk myself elsewhere, but...
[It may be easier to put up some makeshift partitions than hauling the man elsewhere, but he will go where he's taken.]
no subject
[Yodarha's already pushin'!]
no subject
[ This doesn't stop Bruno from getting up to take the other end of the cot. ]
no subject
Uh, guys? Where are you going?
[Are they headed for the door??]
no subject
You guys need help? [ He can sort of tell what they might be doing??? ]
no subject
[Yodarha's eyes drift toward the diseased leg.]
We'd appreciate it if you helped us carry the bed outside.
no subject
[ Hello? Magic? They're a bunch a wizards,
HarryYoda. ]no subject
That... seems kind of unsanitary, but alright.
[Looking at Bruno:]
Hmmm, have you tried doing that before? I can see the appeal, but I wouldn't want to accidentally tip the bed.
[She'll go along with it if everyone else wants to try though. Why not!! Otherwise she'll just go and help Bruno with his side of the bed.]
no subject
Wellll, no? No, I have not.
[ Sorry, Maya. He's just throwing the idea out there. ]
no subject
Well, at least it's an amputation for medical reasons, as opposed to literally any other reason. ]
Better get some bandages too, then. [ And while Yoda doesn't need help with his end, Day's still moving to help if only to make this a little easier and faster.
(He will also wait until they're out of earshot of the rest of the room to ask if anyone here knows how they're supposed to go about an amputation, but he won't be surprised if they're all winging it.) ]
no subject
[Because it sure would be bad if the guy bled out as they were trying to help him!! Also just looking to this dude who does not realize how unqualified any of them are with any kind of medical procedure:]
Um, would you rather be asleep during this? I don't think this is the sort of thing you'd really want to watch.
[She's hoping he says yes so they can also discuss a game plan without freaking him out tbh.]
no subject
Yes, please.
[He is already a little freaked out? Knock him out, champ.]
no subject
[Summoning his blade, he gently taps the man's forehead with the end of the handle. Hopefully that works!]
