southern mission

CALANDO OF WITHERING AMBER
It's mid-morning, with the sun rising high into a bright, cloudless sky, that Tatara summons Bruno, Comet, Maya, Yodarha, and Joyous Day to the manor elevator. It's urgent, he tells them with that soft smile on his face, and your services are needed.

When you arrive at the elevator, standing there to greet you is a young man, finely dressed and with kind eyes; that his mop of brown hair is slightly unkempt is not the only giveaway that he's incredibly stressed. He stands with his shoulders tensed, and almost flinches when he sees you.

"It's...a pleasure," he begins, hesitant at first. But when he inhales, squares his shoulders, he finally looks more like a government official than a meek boy. "My name is Cock Robin, and I am a secretary from the Central castle. On behalf of the minister of arcane management, there's an urgent request for you."

From his thick folder, he pulls out one paper—worn and handwritten. He glances it over briefly before handing it to Joyous Day.

"A town in the southern part of the Southern Country has been having problems with its crops. It seems there's some sort of...sickness that's taken hold of the plants that's spreading rapidly, and they can't seem to find a cure. The only thing they haven't tried is magic. That's where you come in.

"Find the source of the sickness and neutralize it before it destroys their crops. The South is already inhospitable as it is. I can't imagine how they'd fare if they lost a food source. And, personally..." he glances out the window, at the moon fading in the morning sun. "...I have a really, really awful feeling about this. I don't think this is going to be a regular request."

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Southern wizards (and witch), to your mission!

Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.

This mission has been specifically tailored to Southern disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the South on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too! But you've been assigned South—we don't need to remind you of that, do we?

As a bonus, here's your theme music!

You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, April 20 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

[ Day had a... difficult-to-read expression when the feeling of familiarity of nostalgia washed over him earlier, but he immediately perks up when he hears Maya. ]

Mr. Robin said this illness has only affected one crop so far, so I wanna check out the fields and see if we can figure out what's up with that. It doesn't sound like it's been long since only one field's been failing, but...

[ It's really pretty here! The feel is different from the coastal town Comet knows. He's never seen so much farmland... ]

Visiting the crops is a good idea, and talking with the southern country townsfolk too?

...We can also fly around and check for anything from above.

[ The secret thrid option is out there! ]

We could split up, then. Taking a look around outside the town and fields is a good idea.

I don't mind flying around! It could be caused by animals or something from the wilderness?

Until we find out more, I'm willing to bet it's that or some other phenomena, like the Calamity that keeps getting mentioned. You should prob'ly bring someone with you.

...Oh. Yeah. We don't know what's out there.

[ They wanted to go out on their own, RIP. ]

Would be a shame if something went wrong while you're out there alone.

[ RIP Comet. ]

It would.

[ ... ]

Would you like to volunteer?

I was thinking of heading to the fields since I grew up in a farming town myself. But if you got no takers, I'll follow you.
serenesinker: not quite sure how to feel about that... (neutral)

[personal profile] serenesinker 2024-04-13 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yodarha pipes up. Small guy, hard to spot, etc.]

If you wanna check out the fields, go ahead. I can be the bodyguard.

[He gestures to his sheathed swords for emphasis.]

[ Day does look relieved at the volunteering because he can trust they'll watch each other's back out there. ]

Thanks. Hopefully, you'll find something out there.

I was planning on speaking to the mayor and the townspeople for more information on when this all started, since it doesn't look like that made its way into the request. I'd put my credentials as a journalist to shame if I couldn't at least do that much.

Haha, it looks like you'll have it covered! Might be worth asking if there's anything else out of the usual they might have noticed too. Mr. Robin said they haven't noticed pests or any weird weather, but I don't think this would happen without some other signs.

I'll head over to the fields and see what I can find there.

[There's a nod at the suggestions; it's something she'll make a mental note of for sure.]

I'll also see if anyone's heard anything about the wizards that disappeared. I heard some of them were out of the manor when they vanished, so maybe someone here witnessed one of them before that happened.

Anyways, sounds like we have a plan! We should also figure out a time and place for us to reconvene so we can share what we've found. Maybe there's an inn in town?
troublereduction: (day61)

[personal profile] troublereduction 2024-04-13 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they'll prob'ly have a place for us to stay. [ Since the town did ask for them to come over so urgently, after all. ] So maybe there, tonight?

[i'll take "shit we probably should've asked before getting here" for 500, alex

Ah well, the townspeople will probably be able to direct them?? Hopefully.]

That sounds good to me. We can have dinner together then too.

I like the sound of that! They sound like a pleasant bunch according to Mister Robin.

[ What are the other countries like? Who knows They probably got lucky (they did). ]
serenesinker: i'm in a good mood! (neutral happy)

Good to know we've got someone with a keen eye among us! Can't wait to see your sleuthin' skills in action.

Leave it to me! Although I think we'll need to make the most out of everyone's skills to figure this one out, so we've all got our work cut out for us.

[Definitely eying Yodarha's swords here as well; she's hoping that it won't come to combat, but somehow things always seem to trend that way anyways.]
