western mission
A PHANTASMAL DIVERTIMENTO
It's an early morning for the manor when Tatara and G'raha gather the western wizards, an envelop in Tatara's hand. Even at a glance it's clear the letter is from someone quite official, the Western country's emblem emblazoned on it. G'raha looks pensive, but Tatara seems.. unsurprised.
He holds up the envelope, gesturing with it. "We've got a request from the Western military. Seems there's an issue going on at some noble's estate that could be quite dangerous."
(But why isn't the military handling it themselves?)
Tatara takes the letter out from its envelope, reading it out for the wizards. The contents are as follows:
"There's something strange about this request," G'raha says, arms crossed over his chest. "I feel like there's something the General isn't telling us, but I can't say for sure as I've not met the man."
Tatara nods, handing the letter over for the wizards to take. "Do your best to come back in one piece."
The two will walk with them to the elevator, Tatara placing a mana stone into the panel and sending them off to the West. There are directions to the estate included with the letter Tatara handed over, so they should know where they're going.

To the "Western" wizards of the Sage,
I've come to know a few of you wizards who claim to hail from worlds far from this one, and while I am loath to trust anyone with a task concerning national safety, I believe it could be a mutually beneficial thing for us. There are reports of missing people, all of whom were last seen at the the Schropfer Estate just outside the City of Foam, as well as reports of inhuman screams and beasts lurking around the area.
The Schropfers have recently hired on someone who claims to be able to raise the dead, and people are quite adamant that he is able to. That sounds like magic to me, which means it may be just the job for a wizard to handle. If you can take care of this, there will be compensation.
Regards, Gen. Gilles Barnett.

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Western wizards, to your mission!
Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.
This mission has been specifically tailored to Western disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the West on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too!
As a bonus, here's your theme music!
You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, June 15 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

[ To be honest, you can't really miss a stationary target, can you?
Jing Yuan thrusts his glaive forwards, charging it with electricity to stab it right into the creature's stomach, electrocuting the shit out of it (19). Eat shit, motherfucker. ]
no subject
Aye!
[Maybe...he shouldn't have gotten so excited though, because when he turns to the box, he immediately stumbles and drops the keys (3). Muttering a curse under his breath, he spends this turn recovering them.]

[Whoops, he automatically just started spewing dramatic phrases the moment their enemy was immobilized and a sitting duck -- because if you don't do that properly, it just looks like you're shooting fish in a barrel, or a tin can in the middle of a cooler, and that won't do.
That, and he's covering up for the fact that he leaves a couple tentacles still looting when he strides forward -- hand lifted, wrist flourishing just so to direct his shadow extensions to sharpen themselves up for a proper impaling (16). And, since they can freely change their form, please note that each shadow that stabs the enemy will spontaneously sprout hundreds of smaller, shadowy thorns.
Say goodbye to your dubious insides, bozo.]

A dark presence is growing stronger, and it's not the chuuni edgelord this time.
There is one more round before he breaks free.]

Urianger keeps a secure hold as he uses Jing Yuan's key on the box's lock. Hopefully it's the right key!]

By which I mean, fuck it up...
How so? Well, Jing Yuan is going to wield his glaive with that reverse grip, swinging so quickly that it appears to be conducted in just one swing upon the monster. But, in reality is a combination of numerous, powerful hits landed, all tinged with an electrical element, with the chance of also inflicting a debilitating shock debuff for a short time (not paralysis but a constant shock low damage status effect (20).) ]
no subject
That is to say, he's totally going to remark on this--]
Its presence grows, and must be stopped.
[Contrary to this dramatic pronouncement, he first sends the couple of looting tentacles from way back when after Khun and Urianger. Maybe it can help them loot the moonstone or whatever, who knows. Just let it do its sticky-tentacled thing.
And then he wraps the rest of the tentacles around the guy in preparation for whenever he's free -- as soon as he's free from the ice Cid-Shadow is simply going to start whipping him up and down to smash him on the ceiling and the ground (15). Sometimes you just use a wannabe rival as a ping-pong ball for a while.
Of course, this is after Jing Yuan does his thing, otherwise it'd be a bit messy there.]

The moon stone is now fully exposed, so they can see it. It looks like a normal rock, glowing aside, smooth on one side and jagged on another like it's been broken off of something larger, about the size of a human skull. The corrupted moon magic coming off of it is even stronger with the hatch, a wooden sheet lined with metal, blocking it, which means the anxiety and dread in the air gets worse, and the magic feels like acid eating away at your skin. Instinctively, you know that remaining exposed to this corruption may damage your very soul and you will no longer be the person you thought you were.
You have some, but not much, time before that happens, but Philidor is still a threat and it may take more than one of you to properly cleanse the rock. Make your decisions and your actions quickly.]
no subject
Finally, the moon stone is within sight...but it has obviously come with a price. Urianger winces as the pressure of the stone seeps into him. It's only thanks to the grace of his protection spells that it doesn't immediately swallow him whole. They won't last, though. He has to steady himself and concentrate and help purify this thing or they're all done for.]
Prithee, keep him occupied! [He shouts toward the combat squad, then turns to Khun.] Khun, we must purify this quickly. Pray assist me.
[With that, he brings his focus to his side, holds his hands out and begins the purification process (13).]
no subject
well that's definitely eating through the first shield and he can feel the reverberation besides, his ears are going to be ringing after this. he'll make the conscious move to make sure his armor inventory is fully active before turning his attention to the moon rock. ]
On it. [ god does he ever feel like not a healer (6). ]
Cid, get over here and help us! Let Jing Yuan tank him!
no subject
Some people think alike, but the exposure of the moon rock being a thing is also not great in general. Jing Yuan is fortunately the type of person to keep absurdly calm under intense pressure even when he is feeling it, though.
Jing Yuan brings up two fingers together, eyebrows furrowing through the concentration, slightly off due to the remnants of ringing, but enough that it isn't futile. And then he brings down a magical electric wall on all sides surrounding the creature that will electrocute it, which doesn't last as long as he'd like, but boy is he gonna give at least some decent trouble (13)
And you know, continue to draw more aggro. Jing Yuan also does not object to Khun's commands, feeling perfectly capable of dealing with it as long as people can purify that irritating moonrock. He is an Arbiter-General who is blessed by the Hunt and strong combat ability, he can handle the heat. ]
Leo, you pitch as well. The moon rock is a danger that will need our utmost attention; I have the enemy under control.

[ Or don't since his initial roll is a super big 3 but he does go to help Rian to the best of his abilities and might get a better roll later, thanks dice channel.
For his part he always works best musically, but at least he'll sing his incantations quietly for now! ]
no subject
He’s not really a fan of the doom rock, per se — it’s like telling him to go play in a rotting carcass, but magically; he’s done that before, but it was probably more productive and more relaxing than this.
Eh. Fine. Wrinkling his nose, Cid sidles on over to the purification squad. Jing Yuan can have half his shadow protection, he’s taking the other half with just in case.]
O dark side of the moon, give us the grace of your lighter face.
[And then he does his actual incantation in an entirely different language because that’s how Shadow rolls; there’s also accompanying music actually but probably only Leo can catch a snatch of it in the midst of sonic attacks and chaos.
Come on purification give us better moon juice (13).]

However, clearing the corruption and neutralizing the moon stone doesn't stop Philidor entirely. All it does is keep him from getting stronger, but the man is too far gone to be stopped just because what transformed him is nullified.
He misses Jing Yuan and Leo with his claws (both 1s :dontfeelsogood:), but he manages to get Khun (17) and Cid (12) with more frenzied, wild swipes as he flails and screeches, feeling the power fading. He swivels around, eyes landing on Urianger (20) nearest the moon rock, and he lunges forward to bite him, clawed limbs grabbing at him to hold him in place.
With the moon stome purified, he's vulnerable, but he is going to try to make that giraffe a snack.]

One word of advice:
Do not fuck with Jing Yuan's allies, because apparently he will just straight fuck you up. The only reason a certain summoning is not happening in this room right about now is that it'd be much too small to fit it, so there is that. But, he's more than enough to make up for that.
Anyway, he leaps in, swinging his glaive from the blunt side hard enough to whack the monster off of Urianger with his absurd strength, and then after that, in a flurry of movement conducts a multitude of electrical charged stabbing upon the monster (20).
Feel free to join in helping him end the monster. ]

he desperately wants to stab this thing but since the dice continue to be dice, he decides not to opt for melee, instead trying to impair phil further by freezing his joints (6). ]
no subject
[Actually most of that was a bit hissy because like, does this guy ever go down?? He didn't come here for a zombie apocalypse, there's been enough specters, and necromancers are supposed to be at least a little squishy, aren't they??? At least Cid now has the dubious distinction of having done less damage to himself than the weird necro-cyborg has!!
That is to say, he fends off a swipe or two with tentacle sorcery, but there's definitely swipes that get through. Luckily, he doesn't need to move too far or too much into melee distance to really get at his target: instead, the dark sword that had appeared previously extends instantaneously from his sleeves to penetrate the problematic Phil in a flurry of movement and ominous purple light (17). At the very least that should help pin him down and maybe, hopefully, slice a few bits off.
Actually, on second thought he turns all of his tentacles into glowing purple swords too and adds them to the fray. Might as well do some
Unlimited Blade Workssword rain for the final attack.Nobody else will understand the whispered attack name in that same foreign language from before, but it's: Atomic Night Rain.]
cw mild(?) gore
Thank the Twelve that the rest of the group is immediately on top of the situation. Freed from Philidor's clutches, he crawls off to safety, spilling a trail of blood behind him. He parks himself up against a wall and begins an attempt to heal himself (5), but the dizzying pain makes him momentarily lose his grip on his emotional state, as well as his magic. He can't get anything to stick. The best he can do is keep a hand pressed to his neck in an attempt to hold back the bleeding for now.]

With the spells from Cid and Jing Yuan, which would have been devastating in their own right, and Leo's amplification, it seems like Philidor might be finished. He screeches one more time, a death rattle that effects Jing Yuan (15), Cid (16), and Urianger (17) (I'm so sorry Seto), but not Khun (5) or Leo (2). The scream rattles them to their core, feeling like it's shaking them to their very core... Shaking the room around them, machinery and mana stones joining the rattling and rocking...
Oh.
That's not from Philidor's scream. The man who made himself a monster slumps, crashing to the floor in a pile of blood and viscera, singed and smoking from Jing Yuan's smell, while the house around them creaks and groans. The house, too, had been warped by the moon, by Philidor's madness, and with it gone it can't support itself anymore. The mansion is collapsing, about to bury Philidor's sins and the rest of them if they don't escape quickly. (Very lucky they have magic, isn't it? Though a few of them did just get psychic blasted and gnawed on...)
With the moon rock purified, they can take it with them without any worries, if they decide that's a priority with the ceiling starting to fall down.

Q-Quickly... [He tries to raise his voice. It seems like he's noticed that the floor rumbling underneath him isn't just from the beating he took to his brain.] We must needs make haste with the stone.

Someone grab a hold of the moon rock! I've got Urianger.
[ Jing Yuan will manage to toss a basic heal upon Urianger and nothing else because that is sure one hell of a death rattle.
He is at least a quick person but has no time to grab the moon rock and he is one person. Please somebody who isn't as shaken get the smaller object because he will carefully pick up Urianger otherwise.
As for the other issue, his next course of action is to head towards one of the windows, and lord help me his low roll will not have him able to break through one, probably. But he does instead use a wind spell to begin to force one measly window open, which should be doable (6), as well as summon his broom to him. The death rattle apparently has gotten to him though he outwardly doesn't act like it, it's fine. ]
We should take to the windows!
[ Jing Yuan says but who knows what anyone is doing anymore over the chaos, ringing in their ears, and whatever other nonsense is going on. ]
no subject
[He better not have been magically connected to the house too... rude.......
Cid scrubs his ears for a second, looks around at the mess and promptly sends a couple tentacles out to stabilize the moon rock; he could take it with, but maybe somebody else has a more secure method of transportation?? Hello?? Bueller?? While he's doing that on the side--
He also musters the swords still left over from the Great Phil Kabobbening and sends them outward and upward; aiming to blow out the windows as well as peel away some of the ceiling to give them as much room as possible to maneuver (11). Can't fall on them if the force outward is strong enough.
Just going to mosey on over to that side of the room and pop on his broom.]
Did we forget anything...?
[He's pretty sure they looted a decent amount of things beforehand...? RIP to the loot in the other rooms, though.]
