southern mission

CALANDO OF WITHERING AMBER
It's mid-morning, with the sun rising high into a bright, cloudless sky, that Tatara summons Bruno, Comet, Maya, Yodarha, and Joyous Day to the manor elevator. It's urgent, he tells them with that soft smile on his face, and your services are needed.

When you arrive at the elevator, standing there to greet you is a young man, finely dressed and with kind eyes; that his mop of brown hair is slightly unkempt is not the only giveaway that he's incredibly stressed. He stands with his shoulders tensed, and almost flinches when he sees you.

"It's...a pleasure," he begins, hesitant at first. But when he inhales, squares his shoulders, he finally looks more like a government official than a meek boy. "My name is Cock Robin, and I am a secretary from the Central castle. On behalf of the minister of arcane management, there's an urgent request for you."

From his thick folder, he pulls out one paper—worn and handwritten. He glances it over briefly before handing it to Joyous Day.

"A town in the southern part of the Southern Country has been having problems with its crops. It seems there's some sort of...sickness that's taken hold of the plants that's spreading rapidly, and they can't seem to find a cure. The only thing they haven't tried is magic. That's where you come in.

"Find the source of the sickness and neutralize it before it destroys their crops. The South is already inhospitable as it is. I can't imagine how they'd fare if they lost a food source. And, personally..." he glances out the window, at the moon fading in the morning sun. "...I have a really, really awful feeling about this. I don't think this is going to be a regular request."

OOC NOTES
Welcome, Southern wizards (and witch), to your mission!

Missions are mod-guided events that are partial CYOA, partial play-by-post instances. In general, you are free to interact with a scene as you please, and the mod will tell you how the scene reacts as a consequence of your actions. Some scenes will allow for more flexible threading, such as exploration or conversation, while some scenes will require strict turn order to preserve rounds, such as combat or other time-sensitive conflict. The mod will inform you if strict turn order is required at the start of a scene. Regardless, always be sure to bold any important actions you take.

This mission has been specifically tailored to Southern disposition, attitudes, and magic. If you find yourself struggling to tackle a situation, refresh yourself on the description of the South on the locations page, and make sure to confer with your teammates too! But you've been assigned South—we don't need to remind you of that, do we?

As a bonus, here's your theme music!

You will have until 11:59 AM EDT on Saturday, April 20 to reach a conclusion for this mission. Good luck!

[She glances at everyone in turn as they each chime in before turning to Bruno with a firm nod and smile.]

We’re all in this together, Bruno-san.

[Her eyes flicker down at her focus—a flimsy-looking plastic mask—before her gaze goes back up again.]

You just need to believe that we can do this—look at how far we’ve come already!

[ Bruno has no words for the support these people — these people who barely know him, these people who were strangers not even a week or so ago — offer. It seems unreal but not so unreal that their words don't reach through those long years of self-doubt.

If they believe... and the people of the South believe...

Maybe he can, too.
]

...what I'd like for the people here... it's... it's the same thing I want for my own home. [ He fights through the fear to answer the other wizards. ] I want them to find happiness, with lots of good food and music and just. Just life, a good life.

[ He steps forward, closer to Yodarha, Day, Comet, and Maya, and brings his own focus up to meet theirs. ]

L-let's do this!
serenesinker: we're goin' on a trip to the mountains! exciting, huh? (happy)

[personal profile] serenesinker 2024-04-19 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
We did it! Good job, folks!

[Yodarha hops, kicking his feet together during his respectable air time.]

So it seems the source of everything was... maybe some sorta meteorite?

[ Day's just sort of examining the stone. ]

It...looks like it might be? I think Comet had the right idea. Assumin' this fell from the heavens, it landed here and then the farmer accidentally disturbed it.

So Comet predicted... a comet? That's sorta funny, right? I'm not the only... one who... thinks that?

[ Haha... ha. Yeah. Bruno awkwardly clears his throat before shuffling closer, peeking around Day at the rock. ]

I wonder if that's why this is the only spot around with good soil, too.

[ Bruno actually gets a snicker from them. ]

Yeah, it's pretty funny.

[ What a coincidence. It's probably too dirty at the moment, but can the teen from the Moon at least recognize it as a space rock? Or maybe a moon rock specifically, but the Mahoyaku Moon is uh. fucked up. Not worried if it's gonna be a mystery here aside from... Weird Rock. ]

[ Upon closer inspection with the mod's blessing... ]

It's a moon rock, by the way. I know because I'm from the Moon, obviously not this one.

[ Anyways. ]

I say we should take it back. I don't want to worry the people here by leaving it, even if it's safe now.

[ Did Comet just say they're from the Moon—

Well okay, not important compared to the current matter at hand. ]

Right. And considerin' the Calamity's 'cause of the moon, maybe some of the more scholarly-minded people back in the manor would be interested in studying this chunk of moon rock.

[There's a blink at the moon revelation too and she's this close to making some sort of comment on that, but probably better not to derail things for now.]

Y-Yeah, I agree. There's no telling if there might be more of these fragments around too. So if we can figure out how this happened, it could help if there are any other incidents like this in the future.

[Hoping that doesn't happen but apparently weird shit has been happening since the last Calamity so who knows.]
serenesinker: kickin' back! (relaxed)

[personal profile] serenesinker 2024-04-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Considering he knows people live on the moon in his world, Comet being a native moondweller is less of a surprise to Yodarha.]

I'm sure the sages getting their hands on a physical sample would help in their efforts too! So I also vote for takin' it with us! We should at least let the townsfolk see what caused their conundrum first though.

[ Bruno gives Comet a peculiar look. From the moon...? ]

Wait, like, as in, people decided to live on the moon, and then...? I saw people walking on it once. I have no idea how they managed that but. I guess. It's a thing.

[ Living on it, though? Being from it? Maybe that moon landing vision wasn't far enough ahead. Not that anyone back home ever believed him about stuff like that.

Anyway, there's much more important things at hand here, not that Bruno has a differing opinion here.
]

But, yeah, let's. Let's take it back to the manor. Everyone here will feel better knowing what caused this is long gone.
